Link Music Lab Kids presents songs in the spirit of spring, storytelling and arts and crafts as a one-day, family-friendly event about Nowruz, which marks the Persian New Year on the vernal equinox, along with age-old traditions from Turkey and Greece.

It’s the weekend before Nowruz! How do we prepare for rebirth and renewal? Catch a concert with Hani Niroo on guitar in Farsi, then sing along with Sophia Grigoriadis, Maryem Tollar and Brenna MacCrimmon on tambura, ukulele and percussion as they bring songs from Greece, Turkey, the Arab world and the Balkans. Learn about Haft Seen, colour and paint with Azar Ebrahimi and make arts and crafts with Hanieh Rabbani Abolfazli. Listen to Farbod Maeen’s story about Amoo Nowruz and superheroes! Dance and sing with Begum Boyancı, hear stories about Hıdrellez and then make a red and white Martis bracelet to keep March sunburns away with Vassiliki Tsezou. There will also be yoga with Ghazal Bina in the afternoon for a chance to stretch and relax.

With arts and crafts activities going on all day long and multiple concerts and storytelling sessions for children aged 8 and under, it’s the perfect way to welcome spring!

Link Music Lab gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Canadian Heritage. Presented in association with Small World Music.
